For a photographer, it's easy to get swept away in large crowds and general fanfare, especially as they concern a political event as momentous as the presidential inauguration of Barack Obama. With no press pass to get me up front and center to take the up front and center shots, I found myself on the fringes of a major historical event, experiencing it through the eyes of deeply committed Obama constituents who had pilgramaged from every corner of the country. Suddenly, I was seeing countless people dressed in elegant furs from head to toe. Everywhere I turned, a man or woman was dressed to the nines to look their best for the President. This small portrait series is representative of the people who traveled from as far as Texas, dressed in their most elegant and regal winter weather attire to experience being in the same 3-mile radius as President Obama in January of 2012.
